Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has said that effective leadership is rooted in listening, learning, and continuous engagement with the people.
Speaking in an interview on ADVOCACY FOR GOOD GOVERNANCE, on Thursday May 14 2026, Obi stated that any leader who is no longer willing to listen and learn should not remain in office, as no individual has a monopoly on knowledge or solutions.
He explained that leaders must remain close to the people they serve in order to properly understand their needs and assess the impact of government policies.
Obi further noted that regular interaction with citizens helps leaders evaluate performance, identify challenges, and make necessary adjustments in governance.
According to him, leadership is not only about authority, but also about responsibility, responsiveness, and accountability.
