NDC Zoning To South: What They Have Just Said Is That Tinubu Should Complete His 8yrs -Ikonne

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia South, Prince Paul Ikonne, has reacted to the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s decision to zone its presidential ticket to the southern part of Nigeria, saying the move carries political meaning beyond party strategy

According to report by VANGUARD on Thursday May 14 2026, Ikonne argued that the decision could be interpreted as an indirect endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu completing two terms in office, in line with Nigeria’s long-standing tradition of power rotation between the North and the South.

According to him, since the North had previously occupied the presidency for eight years, zoning the next presidential ticket to the South reinforces the principle of regional balance that has shaped the country’s democratic practice since the return to civilian rule in 1999.
