According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, May 11, 2026, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims suggesting that he is involved in the screening process of aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State.
Wike clarified that he has no role or connection with the internal operations or decision-making processes of the APC in the state. He stressed that it would be inappropriate to associate him with activities or administrative matters of a party he does not belong to, adding that he is neither part of the exercise nor in a position to influence or comment on it.
He made these remarks on Monday while overseeing the inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. During the exercise, he responded to questions from journalists regarding political developments in Rivers State, particularly the APC screening of aspirants.
The minister reiterated that as a non-member of the APC, he has no access to or knowledge of the party’s internal procedures, including its screening arrangements. He maintained that it would be wrong to speculate or issue statements about processes outside his political affiliation or official duties.
His comments came against the backdrop of recent political activities involving the Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, who was reported to have left abruptly after interacting with journalists during an appearance before the APC screening committee for governors. The committee was chaired by the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
Fubara had been absent on the initial day scheduled for the conclusion of the screening exercise, which also involved governors seeking re-election tickets and others pursuing senatorial ambitions after their second terms. His absence drew attention within political circles and sparked discussion among party observers.
However, Yilwatda later clarified that missing the scheduled screening date did not indicate any procedural issue, explaining that governors who were engaged with official responsibilities in their states were allowed flexibility to attend the exercise on alternative dates….See More
