One Term: Assuming Obi Wins, What Happens If He Gets NEC Of Party To Reverse His Decision?- Keyamo

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has criticized former Anambra State governor Peter Obi over his reported promise to serve only one term if elected president.

Keyamo made his remarks in a post shared on his official X account on Monday, May 11, 2026. His reaction followed reports that Obi had moved from the African Democratic Congress to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

In his statement, the aviation minister accused Obi of being overly eager to attain the presidency. He also argued that the proposal to spend only four years in office was disrespectful to Nigerians and questioned the sincerity of such a commitment.

Keyamo further raised concerns about what could happen if Obi later changed political parties or if the leadership of the NDC decided to overturn the alleged agreement. According to him, this possibility makes the promise unreliable.
