Peter Obi: “His Party Is Also in Limbo” – Bala Mohammed Says Judiciary Will Determine ADC’s Fate

According to a report by Punch on Thursday, April 23, 2026, the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has said that the current political uncertainty surrounding the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where former presidential candidate Peter Obi is aligned, remains unresolved and is now subject to judicial interpretation.

Mohammed made the remarks on Thursday while hosting Obi and a delegation of South-East political stakeholders at the Bauchi Government House. The meeting formed part of ongoing consultations among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the governor, the ADC is currently facing internal leadership disputes that have weakened its operational structure. He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has effectively withdrawn recognition from competing factions within the party, leaving its official activities in a state of suspension.

“In reality, his party is also in limbo,” Mohammed said. “We are looking up to the judiciary.” His comments suggest that the final resolution of the ADC crisis will depend on court rulings expected to determine the authentic leadership structure of the party.

The ADC crisis has reportedly escalated into a legal standoff, with multiple factions laying claim to control of the party’s national leadership. The matter is now before the highest levels of Nigeria’s judicial system, creating what political observers describe as a “legal limbo” that has stalled the party’s formal operations.

Mohammed, who described himself as a “freelance politician,” said the current instability across political parties highlights the need for broader dialogue and possible realignment among political actors. He noted that many opposition figures are engaging in consultations aimed at exploring future cooperation.
