Former Nigerian senator Shehu Sani has stirred fresh debate online after highlighting what he described as the surprising achievements of Iran despite decades of international sanctions and geopolitical pressure.
In a post shared on his verified social media account, Sani appeared to question how the country managed to make progress in key sectors while facing economic restrictions and recurring tensions with Western powers.
Reflecting on the situation, he asked a series of questions pointing to Iran’s development in education, healthcare, science, and military strength.
“How did a nation under sanctions for 47 years achieve over 90 percent literacy rate? How did they achieve 98 percent literacy rate for their female citizens?” he wrote.
The former lawmaker also questioned how the country was able to establish what he described as an advanced healthcare system and build a formidable military structure despite economic pressure from the international community.
Sani further pointed to Iran’s scientific and industrial progress, asking how the country managed to train highly skilled scientists and develop a strong research base under sanctions.
He also highlighted infrastructure achievements, noting Iran’s ability to maintain consistent electricity supply and construct oil refineries despite restrictions on trade and technology.
“How were they able to provide their people with uninterrupted electricity despite sanctions? How were they able to build and run refineries despite sanctions?” he asked.
Sani concluded his reflection by questioning why some countries that are not under similar sanctions have struggled to achieve comparable progress.
“Which country on Earth can achieve this under wars and sanctions? Why are those nations not under sanctions unable to achieve their feats?” he added.
His comments come as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran…..See More
