300 People Were Killed In Kwara; Others Were Taken To Bush; No Nigerian Went To Protest- Onwubiko

Emmanuel Onwubiko of the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has expressed deep concern over reports of widespread violence in Kwara State, describing it as part of Nigeria’s worsening security situation.

Speaking on Symfoni TV, Onwubiko alleged that an attack in a rural community led to the deaths of between 200 and 300 people. He further claimed that several others were abducted and taken into nearby forests. According to him, security agencies, including the military, were unable to immediately rescue the victims during the incident.

He said, “There are so many things that are wrong in the country. I think 200 or even 300 people were killed in a community in Kwara State, and the remaining population were captured and taken into the bush. The army couldn’t get those people out at that time.”

Onwubiko also criticized what he described as the lack of public reaction to the tragedy. He noted that there were no significant nationwide protests or demonstrations following the incident, which, according to him, reflects a troubling level of public indifference.

“No Nigerian went to the street to protest. It was as if it is them; they are not our people. Let them deal with them,” he added.

He argued that such silence weakens national unity and reduces pressure on authorities to respond effectively to insecurity. In his view, incidents like the one reported in Kwara State expose deep gaps in Nigeria’s security response system, especially in rural communities where attacks often occur with limited immediate intervention.

Onwubiko further stressed that insecurity in the country requires both government action and stronger civic engagement. He warned that without sustained public awareness and collective responsibility, similar tragedies may continue to receive little attention and weak response….See More
