According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, May 23, 2026, the widow of a teacher reportedly killed during a recent school attack in Oyo State has appealed to the government and security agencies to help recover her husband’s remains for burial, as search and rescue operations continue for other victims still in captivity.
Mrs Mary Oyedokun made the emotional appeal following the abduction and killing of her husband, Mr Michael Oyedokun, a teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, during coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area.
The incident, which has sparked widespread outrage across the country, affected multiple educational institutions, including Community High School, L.A. Primary School in Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota. Reports indicate that between 46 and 48 pupils and teachers were abducted by armed attackers during the assaults.
The violence sent shockwaves through Oyo State and beyond, with concerns mounting over the safety of schools in rural communities and the growing vulnerability of educational institutions to armed attacks. Parents, teachers, and community members have continued to call for urgent and sustained security interventions.
Public anger intensified after a video allegedly showing the killing of Mr Oyedokun circulated on social media. The footage triggered condemnation from civil society organisations, celebrities, and concerned Nigerians, many of whom demanded swift action from security agencies to rescue the remaining victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a separate emotional video obtained on Friday, Mrs Oyedokun, speaking in Yoruba, made a heartfelt plea to the Federal Government to assist in retrieving her husband’s body so that he could be given a dignified burial.
“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she said tearfully.
Her appeal reflects the anguish faced by families of victims amid ongoing uncertainty over the fate of abducted persons and the recovery of those confirmed dead.
Security agencies have since intensified rescue operations aimed at securing the release of the remaining abductees. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to track down the armed groups responsible for the attacks and dismantle their networks in the region.
The Oyo State Government had earlier assured residents that both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies were being deployed to ensure the safe rescue of all kidnapped victims. Officials also pledged to strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities in response to the incident.
At the federal level, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable. He assured Nigerians that security agencies had been directed to intensify operations to rescue the abducted victims and ensure the arrest of those responsible…See More
