Speaking in an interview aired by News Central TV, Nweke reacted to recent political developments involving prominent actors in Nigeria’s opposition space. “I saw that Peter Obi is not ready to submit to the outcome of the ADC primaries, and Atiku is not submitting either,” he said, expressing concern over what he described as a troubling trend.

According to the professor, adherence to internal party rules and acceptance of primary results are essential components of a functioning democracy. He noted that political parties are expected to provide credible platforms where due process is respected and decisions are upheld in good faith.

Nweke warned that any reluctance by influential politicians to align with party procedures could erode public trust in opposition parties, particularly at a time when many Nigerians are seeking credible alternatives. He added that such actions may also raise questions about leadership readiness and the ability to manage complex national issues.

While acknowledging the political experience and influence of the individuals involved, he emphasized that effective leadership requires discipline, patience, and respect for institutional frameworks.

He concluded that strengthening internal democracy remains crucial for any party aiming to position itself as a viable contender in future elections, noting that consistency in upholding democratic values will be key to gaining public confidence….See More
