Why Are Youths Not Contributing Money To Buy Forms For Members Of Their Generation To Contest — Sani

Senator Shehu Sani has sharply criticised Nigerian youths for failing to channel their resources and energy towards supporting candidates from their own generation, instead opting to fund older politicians whom he described as having failed them.

In a strongly worded statement on his official X handle on Sunday, May 10, 2026, the former Kaduna Central senator expressed disappointment over the persistent trend where young Nigerians contribute money to purchase expensive nomination forms for veteran politicians.

Sani’s remarks come as political parties ramp up activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with many aspirants already picking up nomination forms. The high cost of these forms has often been cited as a major barrier for young and independent aspirants, who frequently rely on party structures dominated by established figures.

“Why are the youths not contributing money to buy forms for the members of their generation to contest elections, but prefer to buy forms for the political elites ‘that failed their generation’,” Sani questioned.

He urged the youth to convert their vibrant social media activism into concrete political action. “Why not transform their Social Media energy to Political Energy,” the senator added.
