Why do the youth prefer to buy forms for the generation that failed them?– Shehu Sani

Senator Shehu Sani pointed out that is the the “Not too Young to Run Act” are still largely underutilized by the Nigerian youth.

In a post on Facebook on 10th May 2026, he argued that despite the presence of this progressive legislation, most of the individuals purchasing electoral forms for upcoming elections are not young people. He raised questions about why the youth are hesitating to embrace the challenge of taking over leadership roles.

Furthermore, Sani questioned why young people are allowing the “old school” and the children of elites to dominate the political stage. He emphasized the disconnect between their vibrant social media presence and their lack of political action, such as contributing financially to support youth candidates.

He partly wrote, “The opportunity provided by The ‘Not too Young to Run Act’ is still not fully utilised by the youth. Most of the people picking up forms for the coming elections in both the ruling and opposition parties are NOT young people.
