Veteran fuji musician, Adewale Ayuba, in an interview with Saturday PUNCH correspondent, addressed the recent rumours surrounding his marriage, his family, and his views on national issues.
In the interview, Adewale Ayuba spoke about his conversion from Islam to Christianity, describing it as a deeply personal and thoughtful decision.
He explained that his choice had nothing to do with marital issues or external pressure but was rooted in his personal spiritual journey. While practising Islam, Ayuba said he lived a disciplined life and remained devoted to his wife, despite the common perception that Muslim men are required to marry multiple wives — a claim he maintained he never found in the Quran.
The fuji star revealed that one of the main reasons for his conversion was his inability to fully understand Arabic, which made him feel disconnected from his conversations with God. He said he grew tired of relying on others to pray on his behalf and longed for a more direct and personal relationship with the divine.
According to him, reading the Bible gave him that connection. He was particularly moved by the story of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice, saying that the fact that Jesus died for humanity touched him deeply. He reflected that very few people would willingly die for another, and that realization convinced him that Jesus was indeed a saviour and a victor — which ultimately led him to embrace Christianity.
Ayuba, however, emphasized that religion is a private matter. He stated that he prefers not to discuss it extensively to avoid having his words misinterpreted, reiterating that his faith is a personal conviction rather than something he wishes to debate publicly.
