Senator Adams Oshiomhole representing Edo State has alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio is attempting to use manipulated rule changes to disqualify experienced returning senators from contesting for the Senate Presidency.
Speaking on AIT News, Oshiomhole said, “Even David Mark, if he were to return after all his previous service because he was not in the 10th Assembly, he would not be eligible. What is special about the 10th Assembly? Then Ifeanyi Okowa, a former senator before he became governor if he decides to contest, and I hear he is contesting, if he wins and he chooses to vie for the presidency of the Senate, he won’t be able to contest. What Akpabio was trying to do was to use these dubious new rules to disqualify them. Why are you afraid?” he said.
Oshiomhole argued that most people are unaware of the full implications of what is being done. He compared the situation to a journalist who served as an editor, stepped away to pursue a PhD or other endeavours, and then returned to the profession only to be told they no longer qualify for a senior role because of the time they spent away….See More
