We Will Not Submit”: Iran’s President Defiant as Protests Resurface Across Campuses

According to the Jerusalem Post, Iran’s president, Masoud Pezeshkian, struck a defiant tone on Saturday, insisting that the Islamic Republic will not bend to foreign pressure, even as tensions with Washington rise and protests reappear on university campuses

“World powers are trying to force us into submission… but we will not submit, despite the challenges they are imposing on us,” Pezeshkian said in a speech broadcast live on state television.

His comments come at a fragile moment. Nuclear talks with the United States are ongoing, while speculation is swirling over possible military action. US Senator Lindsey Graham said this week that planning was underway for a potential joint US-Israel strike on Iran. At the same time, US President Donald Trump has warned Tehran over its handling of anti-government protesters, previously vowing to “take very strong action” if executions move forward.

Inside Iran, frustration appears to be bubbling again. Students at Sharif University of Technology gathered on campus chanting “freedom” and “Death to Khamenei,” according to reports by Iran International. Witnesses said tensions escalated, with several students reportedly injured. At Amir Kabir University, students blocked a nearby street, shouting, “Don’t be afraid, we are all together.” Demonstrations were also reported in Mashhad.

The renewed campus protests follow months of economic hardship and political anger that have fueled wider unrest across the country.

Meanwhile, seven men, including a 19-year-old, were sentenced to death for allegedly setting fire to a military base during January’s protests. The defendants claimed they were trapped inside the building when it was set ablaze, but the court dismissed their account.
