Wabara: If Igbos Didn’t Protest Against A Yoruba Man, Why Should We Be Punished?

According to Vanguard, Former Senate President, Senator Adolphus Wabara, has strongly condemned the recent threats demanding that Ndigbo vacate the South West, stating that such a directive is equivalent to asking them to leave Nigeria entirely.

Speaking to Vanguard in Umuahia, Senator Wabara urged South West leaders, especially Governor Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, to ensure the safety and security of Ndigbo in the region. Wabara, who serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Peoples Democratic Party, criticized the unjust threat, especially given that Ndigbo did not partake in the nationwide protests against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Expressing his dismay, Wabara noted, “This came to me as a shock and a big surprise. Asking Ndigbo to leave the South West is as good as asking us to leave Nigeria. I’m so surprised and shocked they could be making such a demand when yesterday, there was no single protest in the entire South East.”

He further elaborated that the absence of protests in the South East, despite significant hardships, should not be met with threats and hostility from the West. “If Igbos at home who are suffering the most did not join the protest against an administration headed by a Yoruba man, why then should we be punished? I rather think that Ndigbo deserve accommodation and not ejection by the West.”
