According to a report by The Times Of Israel on May 8, 2026, US President Donald Trump said three American Navy destroyers successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz while facing attacks from Iranian forces. He stated that the vessels were not damaged during the confrontation, although he claimed significant losses were inflicted on the Iranian side.
Trump made the remarks while speaking to an ABC News reporter, describing the recent US military strikes as “just a love tap.” He also insisted that the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran remains active despite the latest military exchange in the strategic waterway.
“The ceasefire is going. It’s in effect,” Trump said during the interview, maintaining that tensions had not completely undermined the truce announced earlier.
In a separate statement posted on Truth Social, Trump accused Iranian seacraft of opening fire on US naval ships as the destroyers moved through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the American forces responded effectively during the incident.
“Three World Class American Destroyers just transited, very successfully, out of the Strait of Hormuz, under fire. There was no damage done to the three Destroyers, but great damage done to the Iranian attackers,” Trump writes on Truth Social.
