According to a report by The Times Of Israel on May 23, 2026, US President Donald Trump said an agreement with Iran “has been largely negotiated,” while noting that a phone conversation he held with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding the proposed deal “went well.”
Trump also disclosed that he had spoken with several Middle Eastern leaders, excluding Netanyahu, about the negotiations. He stated that those discussions were positive and indicated that the agreement could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil shipments that Iran has largely restricted since the conflict began nearly three months ago.
The US president did not mention Iran’s nuclear activities in his remarks. During the conflict, Trump repeatedly maintained that Iran would not be permitted to acquire nuclear weapons. He had also previously insisted that Tehran give up its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent.
In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am in the Oval Office at the White House where we just had a very good call” with regional leaders, adding that the discussions focused on “all things related to a Memorandum of Understanding pertaining to PEACE.”
He further stated, “An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries, as listed.”
