The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullah, has dismissed speculation that the party may align with the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) if its political plans do not materialise, insisting that the ADC is confident of contesting the 2027 elections independently.

Abdullah made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, April 20, 2026, while responding to questions about the opposition’s strategy ahead of the next general election.

When asked whether discussions were ongoing about a possible fallback plan involving the PRP if the ADC’s arrangements did not succeed, Abdullah dismissed the claim: “No, there’s no such thing. We are confident we are confident that we will contest the 2027 election as ADC,” he said.

The ADC spokesman also referred to comments previously made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, questioning the implications of the president’s remarks about his electoral victories: “You see I’ll go back to I was talking about what the president said last week. He said they didn’t want me to, I went through primaries they didn’t want me. I went through the election they didn’t want me. Is it now, then he stop. Is it now that I’m, in that void, he’s saying something.”

Abdullah suggested that the remarks raised concerns about the independence of key democratic institutions: “Is it now that I’m in control of INEC? Is it now that I’m in control of judiciary?
