Counter-terrorism specialist Dr. Seyi Adebayo has shared more information about the intelligence plan that he claims was used by the Department of State Services (DSS) and various security forces during the operation that resulted in the liberation of the Oriire pupils, educators, and principal who were taken captive by armed groups in Oyo State.
In a conversation on TVC News on Friday, July 10, 2026, in response to the successful rescue mission, Adebayo mentioned that law enforcement expanded their activities across many northern regions, pinpointing and detaining people connected to the kidnappers. He stated that this strategy aimed to apply pressure on the criminal organization and persuade them to think twice about causing harm to the taken individuals.
Adebayo explained, “They went all the way to Adamawa State to start arresting relatives and associates of these criminals. They recorded videos and sent them back, saying ‘we know about the one you killed, and if you take another life, we will retaliate against your family.'”
He emphasized that this tactic showcased how intelligence collection and coordinated efforts can affect the decisions of criminal organizations during hostage crises. Adebayo noted that the security forces concentrated on breaking down the support system of the kidnappers while amplifying the pressure on those directly involved in the abduction.
