If the Gov Is Not Held Accountable for the Abductions, Why Should He Get Credit for the Rescue?—Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani questioned the logic of crediting a state governor for the rescue of abducted schoolchildren while arguing that the same governor should not be held responsible for the initial abduction because security agencies are under federal control.

Sani made the remark in a post shared on his X account on Saturday, July 11, 2026, amid reactions to the rescue of kidnapped schoolchildren in Oyo State. He suggested that the same standard of accountability should be applied consistently when assessing the governor’s role in both the abduction and the rescue.

According to him, “If you say that the governor should not be held accountable for the abductions of the school children because he doesn’t control the security forces, why would you give him credit when the security forces rescued the captives?”
