Dr. Oludare Marindoti has called on opposition leaders, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, to join Nigerians in celebrating the successful rescue of the abducted students and principal of Community High School, Esiele, Oyo State.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News, on Saturday, 11 July, 2026, Marindoti said the rescue was a national achievement that should transcend political differences. He argued that moments of success in the fight against insecurity deserve recognition from leaders across the political spectrum.
Marindoti said, “I expect the opposition leaders Atiku and Obi to celebrate with Nigerians. I checked their profiles this morning on X and Obi tweeted about the Archbishop that died, very sad, but we need him to talk about this and give thanks and Atiku tweeted about a birthday of a senator.”
According to him, acknowledging the successful rescue would demonstrate unity and encourage the security agencies that participated in the operation. He maintained that security should not be politicised and that every Nigerian leader has a responsibility to commend efforts that result in the safe return of abducted citizens.
The rescue operation brought relief to the families of the victims and residents of Oyo State after days of uncertainty. The rescued students and their principal have since expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and security personnel for securing their freedom.
Marindoti said the successful operation should serve as a reminder that cooperation and support for security agencies are essential in addressing the country’s security challenges. He added that national interest should always come before partisan considerations.
Update: Following Marindoti’s remarks, Peter Obi later posted on his official X handle about the rescue operation under the title, “The Children’s Safe Return Is Worthy of Thanksgiving.” As of the time of this report, Atiku Abubakar had not made a post on the rescue operation…See More
