During the Trust TV interview, Maj. Gen. Muhammad Sani (Rtd.) referenced a recent incident involving a brigadier general who came under ambush.
He explained that such an incident occurring in the 21st century signals a breakdown in early-warning mechanisms that should ordinarily detect threats before they materialize. According to him, modern armies rely heavily on real-time intelligence to prevent surprises of that magnitude.
The retired General noted that an ambush at that level indicates that critical reconnaissance tools were either unavailable or not functioning effectively. He described this as a major setback for any force engaged in active security operations.
He pointed out that incidents involving senior officers often reflect wider deficiencies affecting troops on the ground. He said that when surveillance networks fail, both senior and junior personnel are exposed to heightened risks.
Maj. Gen. Sani stated that effective surveillance requires a combination of technology, manpower, and continuous monitoring. He said the absence of these elements creates operational blind spots that adversaries can easily exploit.
He added that uninterrupted access to intelligence is essential for predicting enemy movement and preventing attacks. According to him, the failure to detect hostile activity ahead of time compromises mission planning.
The retired officer remarked that the attack demonstrates the urgency of strengthening situational awareness systems across all fronts. He said such improvements are necessary to reduce vulnerabilities that emerge in active conflict zones.
He explained that surveillance shortcomings often stem from gaps in equipment, communications, or field coordination. These gaps, he noted, can delay response efforts when troops are confronted with sudden threats.
Maj. Gen. Sani stated that modern security operations depend on accurate, timely information to safeguard personnel. Without reliable surveillance tools, he said, forces remain exposed to preventable dangers.
