Omoyele Sowore, activist and political commentator, accused the Nigerian Air Force of deliberately targeting civilian populations. He alleged collusion between security forces and terrorists. He made the claims during his SYMFONI interview.
Sowore argues that the Air Force consistently bombs markets and refugee camps instead of terrorist hideouts in Sambisa. He questions why ground troops never confront terrorists but air strikes always hit populated areas. He asserts that security forces know terrorist locations but avoid them to prolong the conflict for profit.
Sowore said: “The Nigerian Air Force has a history of killing innocent people from the air. Was it deliberate in Kaduna or Katsina and Borno where they have done it? When soldiers who are on the front lines call them, they never show up. But they only show up to bomb highly populated areas. How is it that they never bomb the terrorists’ housing estates inside Sambisa? It’s only when they go out that you bomb them and you kill innocent people. If you have intelligence that these terrorists are in the market and you are professional, what you do is to follow them back to where they came from. You should have followed the terrorists when they left the market. How come Nigerian Air Force cannot locate them? That’s what they did with Shekau for the years that Shekau was alive.
