Senior Advocate of Nigeria Oba Maduabuchi has argued that the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) crisis did not favour FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s faction as widely assumed, insisting instead that the court completely wiped out the Anyanwu faction and left the Taminu Turaki-led group as the only legally recognised PDP.
Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Maduabuchi said, “I don’t know why we are concentrating on this judgment regarding the Ibadan convention. But the convention is not what took people to court. What took the PDP to court is: who are the proper and valid officials of the PDP? That is what took people to court. We do not seem to be concentrating on what the Supreme Court said about the other faction — that is, the Anyanwu faction, which it completely obliterated. The members of the PDP are the Turaki’s faction, those who are backing him.”
Maduabuchi argued that the ruling carries far-reaching consequences for everyone associated with the Anyanwu faction, effectively stripping them of any right to speak or act on behalf of the party.
He noted that the Supreme Court’s nullification of the March 12th convention means that everything done under that faction including financial decisions and official correspondence has no legal standing, and that those involved can no longer claim membership of the PDP in any legally meaningful sense….See More
