According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, October 4, 2025, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, is once again at the centre of controversy following a renewed clash with his former wife, Queen Chanel Chin.
The development began after the monarch accused the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, of conspiring with his ex-wife to undermine him.
The claim triggered a sharp response from Chanel, who described the Oluwo as a negligent father while dismissing the monarch’s allegations.
Chanel Chin, who hails from Canada and is the daughter of Jamaican reggae artist Ludlow “Bobo Zaro” Chin, had a short-lived marriage with Oba Akanbi.
She was a model and entrepreneur before meeting the Iwo monarch at a Lagos party in 2015.
Their marriage ended in December 2019 after almost three years, with the Oluwo citing irreconcilable differences.
The separation soon spiralled into public disputes, as both sides repeatedly aired grievances and accusations against each other on social media platforms.
In the recent episode, Oba Akanbi shared a video on Instagram where he accused the Ooni of Ife of orchestrating a plot against him by allegedly introducing Chanel into his life.
He further alleged that his former wife made multiple attempts on his life, including poisoning attempts, while questioning the paternity of the child she bore during their union.
According to him, a DNA test would be necessary to confirm his biological link to the child.
He said, “She had a child, which I don’t even know if it’s mine. I have to confirm that through DNA.”
He accusing the Ooni of accommodating his ex-wife and having an affair with her.
Queen Chanel, however, dismissed the monarch’s claims, instead portraying him as a father who abandoned his responsibilities.
She insisted that she had been left to fend for their child without his support, further straining their already fractured relationship.
Her remarks intensified the feud and brought their private conflict once again into the public domain.
The long-running dispute between Oba Akanbi and Chanel has drawn attention for years, not only because of their royal connection but also due to the manner in which personal issues have repeatedly spilled into the open.
With fresh accusations and counter-accusations surfacing, the rift between the two shows no sign of easing as both continue to present sharply different accounts of their past and present relationship.
