During an interview on Arise Television on Friday, July 31, 2026, Salihu Lukman, a Nigerian politician, said political disagreements over the 2027 presidential election should be resolved through consultation and consensus rather than rigid positions. He made the statement after journalist Oseni Rufai asked him to take a bold stance on the issue of zoning.
Lukman responded that while people may have personal convictions about the direction the country’s politics should take, political leaders do not have the luxury of merely stating their views. He argued that difficult political issues must be approached through persuasion and negotiation in order to achieve broad agreement among stakeholders.
