Reactions have continued to trail comments made by former Anambra State governor, , following the abduction of school children and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident reportedly prompted President to approve the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards for Oyo State as part of efforts to strengthen security and combat banditry in the region. Reports also indicated that the president ordered the deployment of a specialised rescue team to secure the release of the victims and restore safety in affected communities.
Reacting through his official X account, Peter Obi condemned the abduction and expressed concern over the worsening insecurity across the country. The former presidential candidate stated that political leaders should focus more on protecting citizens rather than concentrating solely on future elections and political ambitions.
“Meanwhile, amid all these tragic developments, we politicians remain consumed by the next election, paying far more attention to political ambitions than to the safety and well-being of our children and fellow citizens,” Obi wrote.
