According to a video posted on Al Arabiya on Friday, July 15, 2026, Israeli President Isaac Herzog said many people around the world have no idea that twenty percent of Israel’s population is Muslim, or that he personally swore in judges for the country’s Sharia courts.
Herzog made the comment while addressing what he described as a global public opinion campaign against Israel, which he said is often based on misinformation about the country and the region.
He argued that much of the criticism directed at Israel stems from a lack of basic knowledge about its society, including the role of its Muslim citizens.
He referenced the response he received after posting about swearing in five new judges, known as Kadis, for Israel’s Sharia courts, including one woman, saying the reaction revealed widespread surprise that Muslim citizens hold equal status and active roles in Israeli public life.
In his words, Isaac Herzog said, “some of the people have no clue. They don’t know anything about the region. They don’t know anything about my country.
“They don’t know that 20% of Israel is Muslim. They have no clue. You know, recently I posted a beautiful picture of the way I swore in five new judges, Kadis, for the Sharia Court in Israel, including one woman, which is a great story.
“The amount of response I got from the Arab world and the international community was great,” he said.
