The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to discipline, professionalism, and respect for citizens’ rights during a military police training seminar aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness within its formations.

According to a report aired by AIT News on Thursday, May 7, 2026, the training programme focused on enhancing the law enforcement capacity of personnel within the Army Corps of Military Police.

The seminar, themed “Improving the Effectiveness of Army Corps of Military Police Personnel,” was organised to equip participants with modern military policing knowledge and operational skills required for effective service delivery across Nigerian Army formations.

Speaking during the event, Provost Marshal of the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police, Mathias Erebulu, reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to upholding discipline and ensuring compliance with constitutional provisions relating to the treatment of civilians.

“The essence is to ensure that the right of every citizen is respected. By virtue of the constitution, we are not supposed to have civilians detained in our facility. So, they are reminded that once a civilian is arrested, after doing the due diligence of investigating, under 24 hours, you must hand over that civilian to the agency that’s in charge,” he said.

The senior military officer stated that the seminar was also intended to reinforce ethical conduct among personnel while improving professionalism in military law enforcement duties.

During the engagement, Major General Erebulu also addressed the issue of social media use among military personnel, warning officers and soldiers against activities that violate military regulations governing online conduct.

“Our soldiers have no business being in social media. When they go against the social media act, the first social media act, they are punish. So it beholds on the commanders and officer commanding to go back to their various formations and reiterate the consequences of the abuse of social media act,” he stated.

The Army leadership noted that commanders across formations are expected to communicate the regulations to personnel under their command and ensure compliance with existing military rules guiding online engagement.
