Rita Daniels, the mother of Nollywood star Regina Daniels, has finally spoken about her daughter’s marriage to Senator Ned Nwoko. She revealed that she never supported the marriage at first and was even the last person to know that her daughter was dating the politician.
According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, in an interview with BBC News Igbo, Rita said many people wrongly believed she forced or “sold” her daughter to Nwoko, who is much older.
“When Regina got married, and the world was saying I was the one who forced her to marry a much older man. They said I carried her and sold her to an elderly man,” she said. “But they didn’t know that I didn’t even know when they started dating.”
Rita explained that she only found out after Regina became serious about the relationship. When she questioned her daughter, Regina told her that Ned Nwoko was the only man she wanted to marry. Rita said this surprised her because Regina had never spoken back to her before.
According to Rita, Nwoko didn’t approach her for marriage until after his political campaign. Although she was shocked, she decided to stand by her daughter’s choice. “I was weak, but what was I to do? I stood with my daughter. Was I to chase her away?” she said.
Rita added that she chose to take the public criticism instead of letting people insult her daughter. “It is better they blame me,” she said. “What matters to me is that my daughter is happy and that my family is at peace.” See, More, Here>>>>
