Popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, has emotionally recounted the painful moment he lost his first son, Kambilichukwu Edochie, who died in 2023.
The actor opened up about the tragic experience during an interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast hosted by Glitch Africa Studios, where he spoke about the shock, grief, and emotional pain that followed the sudden death of his son.
Kambilichukwu, who was the first child of Yul Edochie and his estranged wife, May Edochie, reportedly died after collapsing while playing football in school. His death sparked widespread reactions across social media at the time, with fans, colleagues, and sympathizers expressing condolences to the family.
Speaking during the podcast interview, Yul Edochie said the memory of the day remains unforgettable because he had spent time with his son just hours before the tragic incident occurred.
According to him, Kambilichukwu had come into his room on the morning of the incident before leaving for school. The actor explained that both of them joked and laughed together about the young boy’s height, noting that his son was already close to becoming taller than him.
Edochie described the conversation as lively and cheerful, adding that nothing suggested tragedy was about to strike.
In his words: “That was my first son. That morning, he came into my room before going to school. We talked and joked about his height because he was quite tall. He was almost taller than me at that time, we joked about it and he told me only one boy was taller than him in his class. We gisted and laughed, then he left.”
Continuing, the actor said: “About three hours after they called me, I came to the hospital and I saw him dead like this.”
He further stated that the shocking incident completely changed his emotional state and forced him to reflect deeply on life and family.
According to Edochie: “It is a pain no parent should ever experience. One minute you are happy with your child and the next minute the child is gone. It broke me completely.”
The actor’s emotional narration has generated renewed reactions online, with many Nigerians sympathizing with him over the heartbreaking loss. Several fans described the experience as every parent’s nightmare, while others praised him for speaking openly about grief and personal pain.
Since the death of Kambilichukwu, Yul Edochie has occasionally spoken about the emotional struggles he faced afterward. The tragedy was widely reported across Nigeria’s entertainment industry and marked one of the most difficult moments in the actor’s personal life.
