In a recent interview on Symfoni TV, Chris Nwaokobia Jr. spoke on Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence in what he described as growing public resistance to political dominance by the ruling party.
During the interview, Nwaokobia stated, “Let me say it clearly: even if all 36 governors defect to APC, they will still not win in 2027.” He used the statement to emphasize his belief that electoral outcomes in Nigeria will ultimately be determined by citizens rather than political realignments or elite defections.
He directed his comments at the All Progressives Congress, arguing that control of state governors does not automatically translate into electoral victory at the national level. Nwaokobia further maintained that Nigerians are becoming more politically aware and less influenced by elite political movements. He suggested that despite the strength of political structures, the electorate retains the final authority in a democratic system, especially when elections are conducted credibly.
He also stressed the importance of the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, noting that the credibility of elections will determine whether citizens accept or reject outcomes. He warned that any perception of manipulation could further deepen public distrust in the political system.
The Country First Movement convener concluded by urging political actors to focus on governance and public service delivery rather than political calculations, insisting that the will of the people remains the strongest force in any democracy, particularly as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 elections….See More
