A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Aare Dele Momodu, has stated that political actors should be allowed to test their popularity across platforms, while emphasizing that no individual should be imposed over others within party structures.
Speaking during an interview on Channel Television on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Momodu said the departure of Peter Obi provides an opportunity for broader political competition.
“So, it’s good that he’s going to test his popularity elsewhere. So, let others also. But you cannot force Atiku out for a man, because the man said, if me and Kwankwaso come together by 12 o’clock, elections will be over,” he said.
Momodu noted that he would refrain from making numerical predictions, while acknowledging that political dynamics in Nigeria have evolved in ways that could shape future electoral outcomes. “I’m not that pleural, right? I won’t talk about numbers because I am not Clairvoyant. But I will talk about the things that have changed in Nigeria that will give him an opportunity,” he stated.
He urged closer examination of electoral data, particularly from previous general elections, as a basis for understanding political performance and regional voting patterns. “Majority of the votes, go and check. And I’m sure a lot of journalists don’t even check the electoral figures. Go and check the figures from 2023 and see how Atiku did. Go and check from 2019 and see how he did,” Momodu said.
Referencing regional contributions to vote totals, he added, “In 2023, majority of the votes came from north-east and north-west, south-west. Okay? So, go and check the numbers.”
Momodu further outlined key elements he believes influence electoral outcomes in Nigeria, describing them as consistent factors across election cycles. “Elections in Nigeria are decided on three things. Number one is ethnicity. Number two is religion. Number three, which runs parallel, is a lot of cash. So, I know what I’m talking about,” he concluded….See More
