According to a report by Leadership, on Wednesday April 22, 2026, former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has declared that he will campaign against Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that he will actively oppose Kwankwaso’s political influence and future ambitions, especially in northern Nigeria.
He made the statement in a video shared online, where he criticised Kwankwaso openly, he explained that he plans to mobilise political support against him, with special focus on Kano State and other strategic areas across the country.
Dokubo stated that Kwankwaso’s political actions and goals do not match what he considers acceptable leadership direction and added that efforts should be made to challenge and reduce Kwankwaso’s influence in national politics and within his political base in Kano.
He stated that he will not stay away from the process, he said he plans to take part directly in campaign activities and political mobilisation and stated that he will be present in Kano during the political campaigns.
Dokubo further expressed confidence that many voters in Kano will resist Kwankwaso during the election period, he said he expects strong opposition from the electorate that could affect Kwankwaso’s chances in 2027.
He added that he and his supporters will be active on the ground in Kano State, he described the state as a major political battleground where serious competition will take place ahead of the general elections.
