I’ve Told The Govet That Kanu That Is In Jail, It Is The Entire Igboland That Is There–Mbata

According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the supreme Igbo social and cultural organization, has demanded the freedom of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is now in prison.

Along with their demands, the group voiced their concerns about his ongoing incarceration, arguing that it affects the entire Igbo population.

During Thursday’s rally in Enugu, the group demanded that the issue surrounding Kanu’s detention be seen as impacting more than just him.

His incarceration, the group claims, stands in for the plight of the Igbo people as a whole, who are “equally affected” by the change.

After being found guilty of treason, Kanu is now being imprisoned in Sokoto prison.

His situation has continued to be a hot topic in the South and East, with many different people and organisations demanding his release for various reasons.

The organization’s leadership restated their position during a meeting that comprised the Ohanaeze National Secretariat in Enugu, which was attended by the Ohanaeze Imeobi and General Assembly.

The meeting gave people a chance to talk about important things happening in the area, and Kanu’s imprisonment was a big topic.

Attendees were addressed by Chief Senator John Azuta-Mbata, President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, who laid out the organization’s stance.

The issue of Kanu’s arrest should not be resolved while the Federal Government relies on promises from those who claim to have the support of the Igbo people before elections, he emphasised.

Azuta-Mbata went on to say that addressing the problems related to Kanu’s ongoing incarceration should precede any discussions about political support from the South-East.
