According to Daily Post on Sunday, May 10th 2026, the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is planning to return to the ruling All Progressives Congress, insisting that he has no intention of rejoining the party.
Aregbesola made the clarification amid growing speculation within political circles that recent developments in the opposition space could pave the way for his return to the APC, a party he helped build before his fallout with some of its leaders.
The former governor of Osun State described the reports as baseless and unfounded, stressing that his political direction remains firmly with the ADC. According to him, “Let me tell you, I am not planning a return to the APC. Such information is just a figment of their imagination.”
He further stated that the APC has drifted away from the ideals upon which it was originally founded. “I have no reason to join the party again. The truth is that the current handlers have derailed from the vision and mission statement on which we built the party,” Aregbesola said.
The former Minister of Interior was once regarded as one of the influential figures within the APC, particularly in the South-West political bloc. However, political disagreements and internal party disputes eventually widened the gap between him and the party leadership.
Aregbesola’s remarks also come at a time when political realignments and coalition talks continue to shape discussions among major parties seeking to strengthen their positions before the next electoral cycle.
