According to a report by Daily Post published on May 2, 2026, former House of Representatives member Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama stated that there is nothing improper about seeking political support from Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former governor of Rivers State.
Ogbeide-Ihama made this known while addressing party leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo South Senatorial District during his formal declaration to contest for a Senate seat in the 2027 general elections. The event provided him with an opportunity to clarify his political direction and outline his ambitions ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
Having previously represented Oredo Federal Constituency in both the 8th and 9th National Assembly, Ogbeide-Ihama highlighted the importance of alliances in politics. He explained that collaboration among political actors, regardless of regional or ideological differences, is a common and essential aspect of achieving electoral success.
He also referenced his recent resignation as Executive Director of Corporate Services at the Niger Delta Power Holding Company, noting that his decision aligns with his renewed political aspirations. According to him, support from influential individuals or groups should not be viewed negatively, as it reflects the practical realities of political engagement.
Addressing reports of his alleged meeting with Wike, Ogbeide-Ihama dismissed any controversy surrounding the interaction. He maintained that such consultations are routine in politics and should not be misinterpreted as unusual or inappropriate.
Reaffirming his position, he stated, “I heard from some quarters that I went to meet the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for help in order to get the party’s ticket.
