Ibadan Declaration Is a Gathering of Recycled Politicians With No New Ideas for Nigeria –Sunday Dare

The Presidential Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, has described the recent political gathering in Ibadan as a coalition of long-standing political figures who, according to him, have remained in the system for years without introducing fresh ideas or meaningful reform.

Speaking in a statement shared via Arise TV News’ official X account, Dare reacted to the event known as the Ibadan Declaration, where opposition leaders and political stakeholders reportedly met to discuss the future of Nigeria’s democracy and the direction of governance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Dare criticized the composition of the gathering, arguing that it consisted largely of individuals who have previously held various positions of authority, including ministerial, gubernatorial, and legislative roles. He described them as “recycled politicians,” suggesting that the group represents a continuation of the same political class that has dominated Nigeria’s governance landscape for decades.

According to him, there is little evidence that these political actors have introduced new ideas or innovative approaches to governance in their recent or past roles. He further argued that their track records in office do not reflect the kind of transformational leadership Nigerians are currently demanding.

Dare maintained that Nigerians are increasingly seeking fresh perspectives, new leadership, and policy-driven solutions to the country’s challenges, rather than what he described as repeated appearances of familiar political figures who have been part of the system for years.

He also suggested that the political direction of the country should move away from personalities with long-standing involvement in government and instead focus on emerging leaders with new ideas and approaches to national development.
