I Feel So Bad, APC Assured Me Of An Automatic Ticket Before Joining The Party, But That Promise Was Broken” — Sen. Ned Nwoko

Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North in the National Assembly, says he feels disappointed after the All Progressives Congress allegedly failed to honor a promise of an automatic ticket made to him before he defected to the party.

Speaking to supporters over the weekend, Nwoko said he joined the APC based on assurances from senior party officials that he would be given an automatic ticket for the 2027 general elections. According to him, that understanding influenced his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he had spent most of his political career.

“I feel so bad,” Nwoko said. “APC assured me of an automatic ticket before joining the party, but that promise was broken. When you make a commitment to someone, especially in politics where trust is already scarce, you should stand by it.”

Nwoko defected to the APC in January 2026, citing the need to align Delta North with the federal government for better development outcomes. At the time, party leaders in Delta State welcomed him publicly and described his entry as a boost to the APC’s chances in the South-South.

The senator said the breach of trust has left him re-evaluating his political future. He did not confirm whether he would remain in the APC or seek another platform, but hinted that he would consult widely with his constituents before making a decision.

“I didn’t leave PDP to be toyed with,” he said. “The people of Delta North sent me to Abuja to represent their interests, not to be used for political games. If the party cannot keep its word, then we have to look at other options.”

Nwoko’s comments have sparked reactions within the APC in Delta State. Some party insiders say no formal agreement on automatic tickets was signed, and that all aspirants will have to go through primaries in line with party guidelines. Others argue that the party needs to manage defections carefully to avoid alienating high-profile entrants.

The development adds to ongoing tensions within the APC in Delta, where old and new members have clashed over control of party structures ahead of 2027.

For now, Nwoko says his focus remains on delivering projects to his constituents, but he warned that trust between politicians and parties cannot be taken for granted.
