Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s approach to national security and his choice of military leadership. He specifically referenced former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, who once proposed fencing Nigeria’s borders a suggestion Sowore dismissed as misguided and impractical.
According to report by LEADERSHIP on Monday October 27, 2025, Sowore expressed frustration over what he described as poor judgment in appointing service chiefs. He argued that Musa’s proposal demonstrated a lack of strategic insight and should have led to his dismissal if the administration were serious about national security.
Sowore questioned the competence of the leadership and the rationale behind retaining officials who, in his view, lack the capacity to address Nigeria’s security challenges.
He further criticized President Tinubu’s administration, calling it illegitimate and expressing indifference toward its decisions. Sowore maintained that the government’s failure to act decisively on key security matters reflects a broader issue of weak governance and misplaced priorities.
Sowore said,
“I was the first to complain about the one who said they wanted to fence Nigeria — Musa. That one doesn’t know his left from his right. He should have been fired if Tinubu were serious. But honestly, I don’t care what Tinubu does with his illegitimate regime.
