Prominent Nigerian Islamic cleric, scholar, and former military officer, Sheikh Ahmad Abubakar Gumi, has stated that modern technology is rapidly transforming global systems, reducing the dominance of traditional institutions and centralized power structures.
Gumi made the remarks in a post shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, where he reflected on the growing influence of digital innovation across military, financial, educational, and media sectors.
According to the cleric, technological advancement has significantly altered conventional systems that once relied heavily on expensive infrastructure and institutional control. “Drones are cheap and effective, rendering millions of dollars of military hardware obsolete, just as electronic banks will soon push conventional banks to the museum,” he wrote.
Gumi also commented on the impact of digital technology on education and information dissemination, stating that electronic libraries were gradually replacing traditional books and physical learning systems. “The e-library is putting books to extinction,” he stated.
The cleric further observed that social media platforms were changing the media landscape and reducing the influence previously held by traditional media establishments. “Social media is retiring media moguls,” he wrote.
According to Gumi, technological development has created a more balanced environment where individuals and groups now possess greater access to communication tools and information. “Technology is giving mankind a level playing ground,” he stated.
He added that the changing technological landscape could weaken systems built on oppression, propaganda, or authoritarian control. “So if you are tyrannical or oppressive or propagandist, your time is off,” Gumi wrote….See More
