B’Haram: I Never Imagined It Would Turn Out This Way, I Regret My Actions and Ask For Forgiveness- Repentant Terrorist

Repentant Boko Haram member, Ibrahim Nuhu, has publicly expressed deep remorse over his past involvement in insurgent activities, appealing to Nigerians for forgiveness as he continues his rehabilitation and reintegration process under a government-supported deradicalisation programme.

Nuhu made the appeal on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, during an interview on News Central Television while speaking with journalists at a rehabilitation camp where former insurgents are being trained and supported to reintegrate into civilian life.

The repentant fighter reflected on his past actions and the consequences that followed, describing his experience in the insurgency as one filled with regret, loss, and painful realisation of the damage caused to individuals, families, and communities.

“I never imagined things would turn out this way. I deeply regret my actions and sincerely ask the public for forgiveness,” he said.

His statement highlights the emotional and psychological burden faced by individuals who once participated in violent extremism but are now undergoing structured rehabilitation aimed at deradicalisation, education, and social reintegration.

Nuhu admitted that he was drawn into extremist activities under what he now considers misguided beliefs and manipulation by ideological influences and false promises. He said the reality he later encountered within the group was far different from what he was initially led to believe.

According to him, what was presented as a cause for purpose and justice eventually became a cycle of violence that destroyed lives on all sides, including those of the fighters themselves.

He noted that the experience has left him with lasting regret, particularly as he now understands the impact of his actions on innocent civilians and affected communities across the North-East region.
