Dr. Aisha Muhammed Oyebode has reflected on the shock and disbelief that greeted the abduction of schoolgirls from Chibok, describing the incident as one that initially appeared almost unimaginable due to the sheer number of victims involved.
Speaking during an interview on the Rainbow Book Club while discussing her book, The Stolen Daughters of Chibok, Oyebode recounted the confusion and horror that followed the 2014 kidnapping carried out by Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State. According to her, the world struggled to process the scale of the tragedy when reports first emerged that hundreds of girls had been taken from their school dormitories overnight.
