Tambuwal: “You Cannot Be Talking To APC, And Still Being Promoted As Obi’s Vip Option-Abubakar Gada

Former federal lawmaker, Abubakar Gada, has officially declared his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections, ending weeks of speculation about his political direction and reshaping the conversation around party politics in Sokoto State.

According to a report by Punch Newspaper on Monday, January 26, 2026, Gada made the announcement while addressing a large gathering of his supporters in Sokoto.

During the meeting, he explained that his decision to rejoin the PDP was driven by what he described as the urgent need to rescue and rebuild the party in the state, which he claimed had drifted off course after years of internal stagnation.

Gada attributed the challenges facing the PDP in Sokoto to prolonged leadership dominance, which he said limited growth and weakened internal democracy.

He pointed directly at former governor Aminu Tambuwal, accusing him of maintaining excessive influence over the party’s structure and direction for too long.

The former lawmaker noted that his return to the PDP was not motivated purely by personal ambition.

Rather, he said he believes the party still has the capacity to reconnect with the grassroots and provide a viable platform for political participation if it undergoes meaningful restructuring and renewed commitment from its stakeholders.

While addressing his supporters, Gada also revisited his brief involvement with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), explaining that unresolved leadership issues within the party contributed to his decision to leave.

He recalled that in 2025, both he and Tambuwal announced their move to the ADC and were widely regarded as joint leaders of the party in Sokoto State.

However, Gada alleged that months after their defection, Tambuwal failed to demonstrate active involvement in building the party’s structure or strengthening its presence in the state.

He stressed that leadership is not symbolic but comes with responsibilities that must be backed by visible actions and consistent participation.

According to Gada, the former governor’s alleged absence from ADC meetings and programmes created confusion among party members, many of whom became uncertain about the party’s future and Tambuwal’s true political intentions.

He said this uncertainty weakened trust within the party and undermined confidence in its leadership arrangement.

He further explained that the lack of clarity slowed down mobilisation efforts, as supporters were unsure whether to fully commit to the ADC or wait for clearer political signals.

In his view, this situation significantly affected internal cohesion and made it difficult for the party to grow effectively in Sokoto State.

In the final part of his address, Gada said his remarks were intended to highlight what he described as conflicting political actions that eroded trust and partnership within the ADC.

He accused Tambuwal of sending mixed messages to party members and the wider public, which he argued was detrimental to collective progress.

Speaking pointedly, Gada said:

“You cannot be talking to APC on one hand, being promoted as a vice-presidential option for Peter Obi on the other, and still refuse to register or allow your followership to register in ADC,” he alleged. “This level of contradiction is not partnership for progress.”
