According to a report by Trust TV, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, Daiboikiabo Warmate, a public affairs analyst and former associate of Nyesom Wike, issued a stern caution regarding the Peoples Democratic Party’s potential strategy for the upcoming general elections. He suggested that the opposition party might inadvertently hand a victory to President Bola Tinubu in 2027 if they choose Governor Seyi Makinde as their flagship candidate.
During the broadcast, Warmate highlighted the intensifying internal friction within the PDP and the significant hurdles the party must clear to remain competitive. He emphasised the necessity of selecting a nominee with the specific calibre required to unseat the incumbent president.
According to him, “If Seyi Makinde emerges as a PDP presidential candidate, just be rest assured that Tinubu has come back.”
He further explained that the party’s priority should be identifying a powerhouse capable of securing a nationwide mandate rather than a figure whose influence is limited to specific regions.
The analyst also pointed fingers at certain PDP governors, accusing them of undermining the party’s integrity through clandestine arrangements with the ruling administration.
Warmate contended that these secret negotiations erode the party’s foundations and create a climate of internal disorder. He noted that when leaders engage in backroom deals with the presidency, it directly sabotages the party’s collective performance at the polls.
Warmate concluded by stating that the PDP requires a candidate who can genuinely disrupt the ruling party’s dominance and restore public trust. In his view, former President Goodluck Jonathan and one other prominent party figure are the only individuals currently capable of mounting a formidable challenge against the APC.
He warned that selecting a lacklustre candidate would make the path back to power nearly impossible, urging the PDP leadership to adopt a more calculated approach centred on cohesion and political might.
