Chijioke Ihunwo has spoken strongly against the ongoing move by the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy. During an interview with TVC News, Ihunwo said the crisis in the state is being driven by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, whom he accused of using 26 lawmakers to disrupt governance in Rivers State.
He explained that what is happening is not a normal political disagreement but a deliberate plan to prevent the governor from functioning. According to him, the lawmakers involved have been directed to frustrate the government and create instability. Ihunwo described the situation as an organized effort to disorganize governance and weaken leadership in the state.
Ihunwo also claimed that many members of the House of Assembly are uncomfortable with what is going on but feel powerless. He said they have no real choice and are simply acting out instructions given to them.
He advised the lawmakers to work in cooperation with Governor Fubara for the sake of peace and development. Ihunwo warned that actions taken today will have consequences tomorrow, stressing that people should always remember that wrong decisions eventually come back to affect those who make them.
In a very emotional part of his statement, Ihunwo spoke about threats to life linked to the political tension. He said he is not afraid of death, noting that everyone will die someday.
In his words, “They are threatening, they will do this, they will do that, everybody must die, including me. If I die today, you who killed me will also die tomorrow.”
