Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, a popular Islamic cleric and former army captain, has stated that he survived a deadly incident in August 2012. Gumi said two men pretending to be Boko Haram members accidentally detonated a bomb on his path while he was going to the mosque.
In a post Gumi shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, November 29, 2025, he said the explosion killed the two men. He said security officials later identified them and confirmed that they were not members of Boko Haram terrorist group
Gumi stated that this discovery left him wondering who was truly behind the attempt on his life. In his words: “In mid August, 2012, Two people pretending to be Boko Haram, accidently detonated an explosive device on my path to the mosque. They all died. They were later identified and confirmed not to be Boko Haram. So who wants to silence me then?”
