Activist and Sahara Reporters founder Omoyele Sowore revealed a surprising proposal allegedly made by the Nigerian state regarding the trial of separatist leader Nnamdi Kanu. Sowore claimed officials suggested he should personally intervene to convince Kanu to enter his defense in court. According to a video posted on the Official YouTube channel of Arise News, while discussing the trial’s political maneuvering, Sowore stated, “They even proposed to me that I should go tell him to enter his defense.” He further alleged that the proposal included a condition, that if Kanu participated in his defense, he should then promise to form a political party after his release. The entire conversation underscores the high-stakes political negotiations occurring outside the courtroom.
Sowore’s revelation suggests the government was actively looking for a non-confrontational route to resolve the Kanu situation, possibly aiming to pacify regional tensions.
