Nigeria has officially unveiled its first batch of domestically assembled DG-103 rifles, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push for defense self-sufficiency, as reported by VANGUARD on Saturday November 22 2025.
The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, D7G (DICON–D7G) announced that 1,000 units of the upgraded rifles were produced within two months at its Kaduna facility.
The DG-103 is a Nigerian-licensed version of the Russian AK-103, designed to use the 7.62x39mm M43 cartridge. All rifles in the initial batch have undergone rigorous testing and meet the operational standards required by the Nigerian military and other security agencies.
In addition to firearms, DICON–D7G is developing drone and anti-drone technologies equipped with early-warning systems to support frontline troops.
The corporation has set a target to produce 60 million rounds of ammunition annually, reinforcing its role in strengthening Nigeria’s defense capabilities.
Looking ahead, DICON–D7G plans to acquire a military jetty in Lagos by February 2026. The facility will include a production line, warehouses, and accommodation for personnel.
A shipyard is also in the works to service naval vessels, with the broader goal of expanding defense exports to neighboring African countries and enhancing national security infrastructure.
