In North Chruches Burn, Mothers Bury Their Children Because They Dare Calling Jesus Their Lord-Waltz

According to a report by Punch on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Michael Waltz, has given a disturbing account of the violence facing Christian communities in parts of Nigeria.

Speaking at a United Nations event on religious freedom, Waltz said the pattern of attacks in the Middle Belt and the North shows deep and alarming signs of persecution.

Waltz began by describing scenes of destruction in several Christian villages.

He said many churches have been burnt down during raids carried out by armed groups.

According to him, families have been left in mourning after losing children during these violent attacks.

He explained that some of the victims were harmed while participating in simple acts of worship, which should have been safe and peaceful moments.

The ambassador noted that religious leaders have been targeted.

He said pastors have faced brutal killings while performing their duties.

Waltz explained that these incidents have created fear among communities that depend on their leaders for guidance and spiritual support.

He added that entire villages now wake up expecting violence, because attackers strike simply due to the residents’ religious identity.

According to him, this creates an environment where people feel unsafe expressing their beliefs openly.

He stressed that these arrests show how fragile religious freedom has become in certain regions.

The ambassador insisted that the violence cannot be described as random.

He argued that the attacks follow a clear pattern, targeting the same group repeatedly and in similar ways.

“In the Middle Belt and in the North, churches burn, mothers bury their children for the crime of singing Amazing Grace; pastors have been beheaded for preaching the sermon on the mount. Entire villages wake up to gunfire because they dare to commit the crime, the crime of calling Jesus their Lord. People go to jail under blasphemy laws for simply wearing a cross. This is not random violence. This is genocide wearing the mask of chaos,” he said.
